Very please for the long awaited return of Al Scorch to the UK while on his 2016 European tour, Al is touring as a Duo with Fiddle player Jess McIntosh, recently signed to Bloodshot records for his second album release.
Media kit from the record label: https://www.bloodshotrecords.com/mediakit/al-scorch If you would like to discuss booking Al Scorch or more information on any of the artists on our Band Roster then please drop us an email Owlsworld@gmail.com or give us a call on 07775526881.
Al Scorch grew up in Chicago, with its storied history of corrupt power at the top and righteous fighters and big dreamers at the bottom. From the town that gave the world characters like Studs Terkel, Upton Sinclair, and the anarchists in Bughouse Square, Scorch adds his voice to the choir with the enthusiasm and charisma of a Maxwell Street preacher. He eyes the prize of that ever-elusive promised land that’s worth scrapping for, wherever or whatever it may be. With a stentorian bullhorn of a voice, he exhorts, not with a holy book in his hand, but a banjo and guitar. He’s a messenger and a conduit, a believer that a soul-stirring song will march you forward.
Balanced on wedges of punk, old-time string band, American and European folk, and soulful balladry, Al is an entertainer, road warrior, storyteller, and one helluva musician.
Jerron "Blind Boy" Paxton Blues - Ragtime - Hokum - Old-Time - Appalachian Mountain Touring July & Oct 17th to Nov 1st http://www.blindboypaxton.com/
I'm very pleased to have Jerron "Blind Boy" Paxton returning to the UK for Cambridge Folk Festival on the 29th July followed by a return tour Oct 16th to 18th November.
Blind Boy Paxton Featured on BBC Two last Friday on "Reginald G Hunters - Sounds from the South" here's a link to the clip "34 Blues" and also a link to the Full BBC Episode Paxton seems to effortlessly embody the spirit of early music including ragtime, 20's jazz and Dust Bowl–era blues, delivering them through a dizzying display of virtuosity on guitar, piano, banjo, and lately, fiddle. And his delivery in dress, manner, speech, and humor of the period is so spot-on that it seems impossible that it is all contained within one so young.
He can usually be found in smart overalls and a starched white shirt buttoned to the top, with a pocket watch and fob and either a derby hat or yarmulke topping his cherubic face. With his perpetually wry expression, Paxton is part old-school bluesman, part trickster. From looks alone, you might think he was the great-grandson of Willie Dixon or Lemon Jefferson. Paxton’s talents first came to light a few years ago on the Los Angeles folk circuit with his sometime playing partner and fellow musical time-machine traveler, Frank Fairfield. Festival appearances and small gigs around the country followed, and now Paxton’s base of operations is New York City, where he’s an essential player in the old-time music scene surrounding Brooklyn’s Jalopy Theater.
When Paxton sits down to a piano, the spirit of Fats Waller, Art Tatum, and Willie “The Lion” Smith springs forth in a cascade of notes raining from the soundboard. When he picks up the guitar, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Blind Blake are suddenly freed from the crackling Paramount shellac grooves that have imprisoned them for over 80 years. And when Paxton takes up the five-string banjo, the corn liquor-fueled manic urgency of Uncle Dave Macon careens around the room in a dizzying frenzy of old time delight.
After having discovered the origins of American vernacular music at such an early age, Pax-ton seems hell-bent on encompassing the entirety of the tradition on multiple instruments with the slightly rough-around-the-edges impatience of youth. While his vocal approach is decidedly laid back and understated, his musicianship is marked by urgency and enthusiasm. Paxton appears to have absorbed more of the history and essence of prewar music than most performers three or four times his age, and there’s little doubt that we can expect exciting things in the future from this emerging young artist.

To coincide with her new album release Sofia will be touring in the UK 8th to 20th Nov 2016, and we're looking for ticketed listening rooms with PA systems, there will be two in the touring party. Posters/Flyers and professional PR agent.
Sofia mixes her Swedish heritage with a twang of Americana, creating a special niche of folk music that has been described as neo-folk. Her songs go straight to the heart with lyrics of love and loss, and she binds them together with personal anecdotes from her many tours in the USA and Europe, creating a warm and relaxed environment for the audience. Although seemingly solo on stage, she is backed up by a thought through mix of delays and harmonies by her sound designer, just giving her voice and acoustic guitar that extra something without overpowering the songs, allowing everything to stay clear and true to its nature. She has released 6 albums since 2005, played over 250 shows all over America, toured in Germany, Sweden and Ireland and made performances at well known festivals such as SxSW and Lollapalooza in the USA.
”Even though this young lady is from Sweden, I’d place her at the forefront of the American vanguard. One listen will tell you why and how.”

UK quotes:
“Her sounds dig deep into the heart and elicit something truly awestruck and amazed. One of the best and most intuitive songwriter on the scene; her music takes your mind to the scenes and sights she sings- it is such vivid and raw music that rewards those that love music with depth and soul. Big Sky Country is as stunning and rich as its cover art: music that covers a wealth of topics and explores love, hope and wonderful characters. There are few artists that have the prolific and consistency as Talvik.”
– Musicmusings and Such
“Make home on your CD shelf for “Big Sky Country”, the latest in a collection of 6 full length albums, next to First Aid Kit recent purveyors mining similar vein with “Stay Gold” receiving measured success. Sofia’s perfected craft taking her nation’s abilities beyond pop, with open arms, be early bird to new opportunity and cradle Sofia standing on the cusp of, somewhat overdue, larger audiences.”
– Fatea Records
“Talvik has put together a spellbinding assemblage of stripped-down, acoustic anthems that keep compelling from commencement to conclusion. While the instrumentation is adept and engaging, it’s her invigorating vocals that steal the show throughout. So charming is their tone, that the record remains uplifting and optimistic, even in its most melancholy moments.

An easily confused and very shy individual, Charlie Parr has been traveling around singing his songs ever since leaving Austin Minnesota in the 1980's in search of Spider John Koerner, whom he found about 100 miles north at the Viking Bar one Sunday night. The experience changed his life, made him more or less unemployable, and brings us to now: 13 recordings, 250 shows a year or more, 200,000 miles on a well broke in Kia, and a nasty fear of heights. Resonator fueled folk songs from Duluth Minnesota.
Charlie is only going to be in the UK for one week please contact me if you are interested in hosting a show or would like more information for his return tours. Urban Pioneers - USA Urban Hillbilly Roots (with a smile) http://urbanpioneersmusic.com/ Touring the UK & Ireland 6th to 31st July 2016
Mix one part Texas fiddle and one part Tennessee banjo, add doghouse bass and a splash of guitar and you have one heck of a powerful punch called The Urban Pioneers. This string band hammers out a variety of original songs that encompass old time hillbilly music, western swing, rockabilly, and even a few gypsy type songs for good measure. They spend about 75% of the year on tour all over the world delivering their brand of high energy hillbilly folk music.
Until recently, Liz Sloan and Jared McGovern have been household names in the underground roots community because they were outstanding backing musicians, but it didn’t take long for the Urban Pioneers to prove themselves to music lovers of all kinds. Liz and Jared toured and recorded with countless bands in the past but when their last band broke up they decided to give it a go on their own. The Urban Pioneers started out as a means of transportation to pick up a bass that Jared had built down in Florida. The bass was a thousand miles away and the only way the couple knew how to travel is by touring. Jared had recently been trying to learn clawhammer banjo so they wrote some silly songs, recorded them, and joined the Coney Island Road Show that was headed south. They needed to think of a name and a few weeks before a police officer called the urban pioneers because they were “punk kids living in the roughest neighborhood in Pittsburgh”.
The duo was soon joined by Keith Urban from Louisville, KY on the upright bass as well as a handful of guitarists to fill out the sound. With their second album release there is no sign of stopping anytime soon. Be on the lookout for their Vehicle In Transit because the Urban Pioneers are Addicted to the Road. For a band that started out as a bit of fun Screamin Miss Jackson and The Slap Ya Mama Big Band have travelled a long way in two short years. Formed after travelling through the American south in 2013, April Jackson and Marc Griffiths put together a band that would be reminiscent of the great New Orleans street bands they had seen that year. Collecting the best of their friends, all musicians borrowed from other Bristol bands (Howlin’ Lord, Crippled Black Phoenix, Slimline Shufflers, Poor Old Dogs), they started out on a musical journey of their own. The band consists of: April Jackson (washboard and vocals) Marc Griffiths (Banjo and vocals) Mark Legassick (Mandolin, Guitar and vocals) Rebecca Philip (Guitar and vocals) Henry Slim (Harmonica and vocals) Mandrake Fantastico (Double Bass) and Robert William Alexander III (Drums). They work through a variety of material, drawing influence from such diverse players such as early bluesman Casey Bill Weldon, Tampa Red and the wonderful Memphis Minnie, 20’s and 30’s Jazz singers like Georgia White, Anita Carter or Lil Hadin, the western swing feel of The Texas Playboys and finally mixing all that up with the country folk of Doc Watson. Whether its their own original tunes or their own unique take on an early classic the energy and passion all seven have for the music is more than apparent. Late to the festival circuit in 2013, they got off to a flying start playing Mischief festival in late September. However 2014 saw them announce themselves properly releasing their first EP on Little Paradise records in May before going on to play Glastonbury, Boomtown, Bearded Theory, Grillstock, Outwest, Holifair, Funny as Folk, Worcester Music Festival, Glastnost, Stagfest and Free for All Festival. On top of this they supported the likes of Reverend Peyton and the Big Damn Band, Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra, The Corn Potato String Band and The Black Twig Pickers. In 2015 they are keeping this momentum going, already booked for and returning to Glastonbury, Boomtown, Mischief, and OUTwest and making their debuts at Wilderness, Fire in the Mountain and Wonkydonk amongst others. They aim to release their Debut Long Player in the autumn of 2015. BOOKING THE BAND Please contact me if you are interested in booking a show or would like more information.
